Mich T63/Desert wear
I read in one of my reports (#291) that a guy reckoned a T63 outlasted a Desert in Africa. Seeing as they are the same tread pattern and a Dez is much stiffer I'm a bit surprised - but not that surprised. Anyone else have similar experiences with T63s v Deserts? We're about to choose one or the other (plus an MT for comparison) for 5500km all off road and would be interested to know which one might make it. Hi Chris,
My '97 KTM Rally came with T63's and I loved them. Having used Deserts on Elefants for a number of years. They are identical except for a softer compound, at least it seemed so. They worked much better in all dirt surfaces for me compared to the Deserts. They just hooked up in the sand and hard pack much better. As for mileage, 3000 for the T63, 3500 for the Des. Better mileage by the way, than I got on street tires!! The Elefants were 50% pavement usually. I am trying Dunlop 606's on the KTM now and at 1500, 70% dirt mile they look great. Not as impressed as to their abilities, or is that my abilities... I am starting to get impressed with the Conti Twin Duro for holding up and gripping well on pavement, and much better than a Dual/Street (Torrance, T66, etc.) in the dirt. The real problem with T63's is they are only available on NEW KTM's, they are not sold in the USA. |
