Not a Fan...

I followed a lot of the reviews on ADVRider and got myself a set of explorers.
Fitted them in Namibia and the rear worked well in most conditions. I hated the handling with the front tyre and for sand the combination didn't work for me.

Changed to TKC 80's and I love them.

I love TCK80's but rear tyre wear is not that good although front tyre wear is excellent. Has anyone tried a rear MEFO super explorer with a front TCK? AndyB

Funny you say that...

That's going to be my next combination.

I've got a new Explorer rear and TKC front waiting for me in Africa.
When the T63's are dead I'll give it a go..

It might just be the ideal set up..

These tires cant be any good for inspired off-road riding, to me it is a tire treaded for the streets.

Don't be deceived by a tread pattern, Heidenau clearly think this is an offroad tyre. I think they remind me of trials tyres.

Links that still work don't show that tyre. Anyone know of a current UK supplier for 140/80 MFE99 Supers?

Mefo

I usually check here but they don't seem to have those sizes...

Hi,

I am using the Mefo Super Explorer on my Cagiva Elefant with a 21" / 18" wheel conversion. Excellent tire on- and offroad (well as long as you don't fancy the knee-to-the-tarmac riding style), plus it is very durable.

The rear tire is not available in 17" dimensions. For those who need this diameter, I'd steer your attention towards the GoldenTyre GT201, which is similar to Mefo Explorer and Heidenau K60 Scout.

MEFO SHOP

Only the rear is a called a "Super" Explorer which you can only get it in 18" however you can get the Mefo Explorer (very good also) in 17",18",19",21". i brought two 17" tires for a friends Yam and he said he was happy with them

I ran 18"/21" Mefo Explorers on my DRZ400S during my first trip and they are great tyres

Im currently running a front 21" Mefo Explorer & a rear 18" Mefo "Super" Explorer on my DRZ400SM

I always buy my Tyres from Zen Overland as the service is great and very fast delivery/post.

Tyres & Tubes

This dude is not just some shop owner but someone who also went on a RTW trip so he really knows his stuff and gives some great advice on tyre selection:thumbup1:

MEFO SHOP

Last year, at the hubb, I was told by Zen Overland that the Mefo super explorer would be produced in the 17" dimensions, which will be another option for my F800! They thought it might be this Autumn.
