Equipping my new (to me) XT600E

I just bought a really nice 1990 XT600E, which is a bit of a rarity here in the states, even moreso in Kansas, and even more still with less than 5000 miles like the one I got. I was just wondering about a few things:

Does anyone have any information on wiring in heated grips? I need a tank bag too, and I was wondering if there were any bike-specific options. If there's any good general mod advice, too, it would be greatly appreciated, as this bike is completely stock.

Congrats on the XT600E..... its a great bike.

Your best posting XT stuff in the XT600 tech forum for better answers..

Heated grips are quite simple. Some wire straight to the battery and some to a switched supply (eg. from the ignition)

Tankbags.... far too many available to list here. Arnt you going to upgrade to an Acerbis tank ?? 15L - 23L makes sense.

dont get the independently supplied grips that wire straight to the battery, they are too easy to leave switched on and you go back to a dead bike! you could put a relay in the supply controlled by the headlight or ignition circuit i suppose.
i agree with ted, 15ltrs is not good enough for much of a trip but fine for general use.

tankbags- the skys the limit. baglux do a specific cover for the tank, the tank is steel so a magnetic bag designed for offroaders would fit fine. (neither of these would work on an acerbis tank, of course!)
there are also lots of strap on bags around, and side bags that go either side of the tank.

put tenere, XT600 and XT600E in your favourite searches on ebay, a lot of parts are interchangeable and racks and accessories pop up sometimes
