Custom made rear shocks
Hi,
can anyone recommend a company making custom made rear shocks? Grant, you advised me on that. Can you remember the company name? I sent them an email a while ago, never got a reply... I wanted to chase them but I can't find my email and I can't find them in Goggle! Maybe they do not sell in Europe? Happens as lot with US companies I've noticed! Especially outdoors gear! Shame as it is so much cheaper over there! Anyway, if anyone can recommend a company? For the records I am planning to change my rear shock on my 04 F650GS . Don't think Olhin is best for overland trip..... Thanks! |
cheap?
Things are not always what they seem to be. Especially ordering stuff in the US if you forget to calculate the 20% or so import tax.
Cheap indeed if you can take it with you on the plane though. Rob |
I've had good success with Works Performance in the USA. They're on the links page.
Careful - make sure they send all the parts for your shock - they recently failed to include the necessary adapter spacers for an F650 - shipped to South America... |
Hyperpro in Holland do that sort of thing. Tends to be on the hard side, but Jenny is happy with her (modified standard) shock and fork on her DR650SE.

cheers!
Thanks Grant and Beddhist!
I'll contact both see who replies and I'll try get some quotes! |
Check out "Wilbers" shocks on The "chain gang" website. they have a good deal on them if you are a member. Great info for BMW F650 Owners too.
I believe they are made in Germany and I am sure there is a UK distributor. A British couple tested them on a trip to the Gobi desert. They have many more custom build options than Ohlins , but are the same quality. Cheers |
Wilbers
I'd recommend Wilbers. We had ours made to suit our weight requirements, and after travelling on some 'interesting' dirt roads throughout Australia two up, I'd say they're pretty robust.
Another important point, the after sales service is good. Our remote preload adjuster blew a seal as a result of excessive dust and was replaced under warranty free of charge by the Australian agent. Hope this helps, Hamish www.horizonsunlimited.com/tstories/hameandem/ |
