After some good lightweight hand guards
 

Hi any ideas I have the Rally type guards but fancy something more lightweight more like the mx style that clamp to the bars in one place.

Any ideas, I dont want to break the bank either !:scooter:

I looked into TUSK guards a while back!
Found this link I still had saved.

I went with acerbis in the end as I have twinwall bars and have banged a fair few sets of acerbis lever guards around over the years and not broken any yet!
Maybe ye o'l ebay might be a good bet?

Did I mis-read the original post? I thought he was after single-point mounting handguards not full on wrap-around rally guards?

If it is about rally guards I always thought the KTM ones were the best when I raced enduro. They'll fit any bike, not just KTMs. They're all plastic and I tried my best to break them and couldn't and a big plus is no wrist snapping metal bars for those face-plant moments.

Handguards serves different purposes; IMHO protecting the levers is the least significant – for touring.
So far I have met two people that have broken their hand/wrist when the hand has got stuck. Two years back I got my hand stuck behind a single clamped handguard and ripped the handguard off. I was able to keep on driving otherwise I have had to walk at least 40 kms.

Depends what you're looking for.

I use Flags because they keep rain off your hands. They'll stop roost too but I don't get roosted a lot when touring.

I do use brush guards for enduro. Clipping trees with your knuckles happens all the time so any risk is outweighed. But on a 'road' bike I won't use brush guards due to the injury risk, they're actually banned in school-boy MX for that reason. The risk isn't 'getting your hands stuck' as such, it's going over the bars without letting go. You rotate around untill the guards stop the rotation at which point your hands are under the grips.

Interestingly the MX boys just don't use them. They use strong/hinged levers which are almost impossible to break and they don't have trees to bounce off.

The real risk is obviously very low, it's just a personal paranoia of mine. I carry spare levers so I can fix a broken lever in a fall, I can't carry spare wrists.

Thanks for the response. The tusk gaurds look great and I see at $24 on offer look to be a bargain, I just need to check shipping costs. The flags also look good. I also found some Yamaha DT gaurds at £17 which seemed reasonable but they mount to the brake and clutch lever ?

Yeah I have Rally gaurds and barkbusters too but for road and light off road I find these too restrictive.

I want wind/rain protection and the ability to deflect bushes from my hands. I usually cut my levers down clutch 3 finger brake 2 finger that way you rarley damage them and always run with the clamps loose enough to turn in a fall.:scooter:
