1150 GS-Panniers

Does anyone have any experience using Touratechs Alu.Panniers on BMW:s original racks. Is it ok or should I change it to more rigid racks.

Depends on what you'e going to do with it.

For pavement in Europe or NA, and light loads, clothing and such only, the stock racks are good. For off-road, long-distance touring - they're hopeless. They WILL break.

Hi

I used touratech zega panniers and racks on the piste in Morocco on a R100 Gs. I have to agree with Grant that the standard rack is not very strong.

The way it fastens the panniers is not very strong, after a prolonged period off road all the bolts work lose.

I would definately get a rack made, also get one that you can take off the panniers without having to empty half of them as per the standard fitting.

I would also get the pannier powder coated to stop all tarnish coming off on your hands and gear.

Depending on how much weight your expecting to carry, you may want to think about strenghteing your rear subframe.

Cheers

Julio
