telephone jack adaptors
Any suggestions on where I can get telephone jack adaptors so that I can plug in my modem?

Go to the links page and click on the Magellan ad. They have everything you'll need.

Targus makes a kit that contains both phone and power adapters. It looks like this:

I notice you are in the USA. Therefore, I would suggest the Magellan travel store. They are at www.magellans.com They specialize in travel related items, particularly voltage and phone converters for every country in the world. They carry a detailed listing, both online and in the printed catalog of different adapter plugs. Of particular interest is a kit designed for countries that don't use a modular plug-in phone jack system. In this case they have a kit that allows you to unscrew the jack cover plate and tap onto the wire using alligator clips, a portable voltage and polarity tester, and adapter plugs for your US equipment. The web-site has lots of travel-related info as well.

You may want to get a second opinion from a local sorce as to whether or not you really need an adaptor for the countries you are headed for. Magellan's, for example, sells an adaptor for Japan. I know for a fact that Japan uses the standard RJ-11 plug and you don't need an adaptor. I have never seen a plug like the one they say you need an adaptor for in my 10+ years living and travelling here. Maybe in some extremely remote villages that haven't updated the phone system on 50 years...
