Laptop power

I'm going to buy a Fujitsu P2000 series notebook for motorcycling use. I want the laptop to charge of the battery and Fujitsu sells a car adapter for the P2000. However, they want $149 for it and it's bulky. Is there an easy way to make one's own adapter to convert from 12V to 16V, 2.5A? If so, where would I find instructions?

Thanks,
Kevin

You can buy adaptors that have different outputs at every electronica or car shop.
But there output is not very regular and your battery life will defenitly be shortend.

But if you buy a laptop of 1000 us$ that 149 should not be the problem ;-)

Just a small note: I have a laptop with me aswell and pack it very well! I did and it broke in a crash two days ago so...

Yes, after some back and forth with an electronics buff, he convinced me to buy an off the rack cheap power converter. $37 CDN gets me one at Canadian Tire here in Canada. It's small and can power the laptop. That way, I also have the AC adapter (110-220 V) and can steal power from various places using alligator clips etc. when I'm indoors ..

Kevin.
I'm now using a 5 watt solar panel to charge my Fujitsu S model laptop and many other items. Cost about $75 USD.
