Google Analytics - Gathering Website Stats

Not sure if anyone will be interested in this, but today I logged onto Google Analytics , which gathers stats on the visitors to your website.

If you administer your own website its really easy to add, just copying 3 lines of code onto the bottom of any page your want analysed. I've just added it to our home page, but might add it to more later.

Now I just need someone to visit our site! Feel free to boost my ego by going to Jenny and Ollie's Big Trip :)

Hope this is of some use to someone. I certainly like it.

Cheers

I use Google analytics too, it is very good and much better than solutions I have used in the past.

I'm looking into using Google Analytics on some of our websites so I'd be interested to find out more from other users.

Ollie, I've looked at your site several times before, but I've just been back and had another look for your stats. You've added a lot more stuff since I last visited!!

Dan, I've had a quick look at your site as well. Have you chosen your vehicle yet? We've got a 110 and it's a workhorse, no doubt about it. The big downside for us is that we've got 2 kids aged 12 and 14 (that's not the downside - er, actually, no, oh they're ok really, sometimes) and they range from 5' 6" to 5' 10". There just isn't enough room on the back seats for their legs. The dogs have got ample room tho :) so plenty of space to pack stuff. I tried the roof rack once, but the flies just kept getting in their teeth.

I have pretty much decided on a Land Cruiser probably an 80 if possible. The reason being that with a young Daughter it is much more comfortable, all round. If I was on my own I would have gone for a Defender 90!

Recommendation

Hi there Dakota ...

Nice to know someone is looking at the website. From next week for the next month I plan to spend the weekends revamping the website, getting ride of all the 'novice' stuff left over from my initial learnings. I also hope to add plenty more reviews of kit and our car. Hopefully anyhow, certainly if this weather keeps up! Also, hopefully my hosting company are going to sponsor us, so should be moving to php/mysql account and will hence add lots of fancy stuff. Just got to find a reason to have the fancy stuff there :)

Spent the last year teaching myself html/php/perl/mysql/apache and most recently JavaScript. Great fun especially as I have convinced work to put me on the courses

As for Google Analytics, I was recommended by my brother in law who runs some sort of search engine sniffing software company that is ever expanding, and hence if he recommends it to me (being in that line of business) then I reckon it's gotta be good.

Cheers

Hi Ollie

After 20 years of being an end user, I started learning HTML/CSS in March. Moto Andalucia was one of my first websites. The hubby has been in the business for 28 years and I know he uses some other stat analysis on our sites. We only talked about Google Analytics a couple of days ago which is why I'm interested in finding out more.

Careful with your fancy stuff. I work on an old server (kids keep trashing the PC's) and fancy sites (especially flash) kill my machine. Pretty is nice, but I prefer functionality over fancy. I've got the attention span of a gnat so if I don't find it in 20 seconds, I'm gone to the next site. That's why I like the HUBB (creep) - it's easy to navigate and no flashing bling. KISS!!

I went and had a look at your mate Paul's blog. Haven't read it all, but some nice pics there. Happy travels.

Say no to flash!

Ha- yes I'm in total agreement. Generally that is where my wife would overall me anywhere. As soon as anything (too) pointless appears I soon get told.

But flash would be a step too far for me.

Liked your site, nice design. Good luck

Cheers

After 10 days ........

So I have had this analyzing ouraffic for about ten days and I've gotta say its a fairly impressive tool. We have a lot more traffic coming to our site than I ever ned - about 12 unique visitors a day on average. 3/4s of these are new visitors and have come from a total 19 different countries! Half of the visitors are directed there from here.

This has really blown my mind and inspried me to keep the website in a more tidy manner ....

So this weekend it's time for some proper updates.

Anyway I'd recommend this to you if you have ever wanted to get a real view on who is visiting your website. Real easy to install and easy to view.

Enjoy you weekends

Cheers
