Garmin Inreach: Forbidden?
 

I read that some countries do not allow to bring in satellite phones.
I want to travel the Silk Road and down to South East Asia by motorbike, so
India, China and Russia (maybe Iran) on my trip appear to be problematic.

Do the restrictions also include Inreach Devices?
I have a Garmin GPSMAP 66i, which I want to take on my journey.
It is not a satellite "phone" but a communicator and SOS signal.
I have read of people who apparently ran into issues with this on airports. Any experience with overland travels?

I can only offer advice on one of those countries. You need to register your device with Iridium Russia. It's an SBD (short burst device) so you don't need to provide satellite phone numbers, just the IMEI. Note the registration lasts 6 months so don't do it before you need it.
