Bike to Bike Comms

Hi

I am keen to hear what you think is the best Bluetooth bike to bike system for sue with other riders and connecting to GPS?

Thanks

I picked up a pair of Sena 20S's for the spouse and I. We are fairly pleased with them.

My only gripe is the range. They claim up to 2 km range, but the farthest we've been able to hear each other is about 1 1/4 km, and that was in a flat area, no obstructions. Mountainous terrain or lots of buildings between you and the other intercom will decrease that.

Other than that, I really like the setup. I can listen to music either through my phone or GPS and when the spouse or I talk, the music pauses. (Now if I can just get him to stop talking.......) It also has a mini jack plug so you can hardwire your music if its not Bluetoothable.

We used them on our Thailand trip. It was a life saver, being able to talk to each other while in heavy city traffic in Chaing Mai. Makes it less stressful when we got separated. Or on a different trip when I got a wasp in my helmet and I had to stop. He was ahead of me and wouldn't have had a clue that I was having a problem.

Picked the set up from RKA ( SENA SMH20s Page ) at the Yosemite HUBB meeting last year.

Thanks that is a great help. we are heading to the USA for a 5 week trip in August and keen to have something that works well. Our old units are down to 200meters range

I've got the Shoei version of the Cardo G9, the SHO 1. It surely does the job for us. Range is good, the sound quality good, it switches channels nicely when the GPS has something to say, switches back by itself. Battery lasts ages, about 8hrs, but it's replaceable, so you can have a spare for long days. Very, very neat fit to the helmet.

Highly recommended.

Both Bluetooth and Wifi should not run into regulatory problems.

The CB radios thingys may have greater range ... fine if your sticking to one country/continent ... But different standards in different countries attract unwanted attention .. usually resulting in removal of said item. Bluetooh and Wifi are universal .. and accepted. Anything else and you can be in trouble. :funmeterno:

I've used bike to bike radios that had wires all over the place then went on to autocom units that worked very well same again wires every where, two years ago some one pointed me in the direction of these,

https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/331808565845

work to about 1200 Mtrs the charge lasts about three days, no wires upto 6 riders can connect together and they are duplex that means both persons that's connected can speed at the same time instead of waiting till one finishes, they are about £60 for two units,
I've upgraded my units this year as they have brought out a handlebar remote to control the head set, volume and switch from riders,
The sound is very good at speed, I've got the inear plugs that cost about £200 so I can only hear what come through the headset at any speed.

Sena vs Scala rider

I have both. Scala rider g9 and Sena 10C and 20S pro. After few years that I am using both I can definitely say that the Sena is the best Bluetooth communication system I have ever used.
The only disadvantage is the battery on the 10C, I am using an external battery pack to be able to use the video all day.
The Sena have the ability to get connected to any none Sena Bluetooth device and it is a straight forward process. The quality of the sound is amazing and you do not need to use the pro speakers kit. The ability of take video in the same unit is absolutely amazing and the quality of the video capability is good enough.
