Zika Virus
 

Having just been diagnosed with the Zika virus, I can tell you it is no picnic but at least in my case, it hasn't hit me as hard as other people. If you are in Mexico, especially southeast Mexico, pay attention to the signs and symptoms provided by the CDC in Atlanta. Here in Veracruz, it is reaching epidemic proportions and has become so common, most people are expecting to get it. Coastal areas are worse than the mountains, and read up on Chikungunya while you are at it.

We have lots of Dengue here in Jalisco. If it advances and you begin to bleed, it is best to head to a hospital asap. A vaccine is now available here but it is only effective up to 50 yrs of age. Sort of pricey, $1500 MXN per shot and three shots required over 90 days. Supposed to be 90% effective.

Are there any sprays that are better than others to ward off mosquitos? Mosquito nets?
