Your favourite road in Central America?
 

Hey all, just want to know your favourite road or track in Central America?

My friend and I are currently in Mexico, riding DR650s and have found some great roads here, Mazatlan to Durango is a beauty, starting from sea level and peaking at 2700m with about a million corners in between.

We have a rough route worked out but Im sure there are some great roads and tracks out there we dont know about that we can incorporate into our trip.

Hey guys, sounds like you're having some fun.
I liked the Espina del Diablo too, ridden it a couple times. But Mex.16 is far better, as are the NEW and EMPTY paved roads in and around the Copper Canyon. Best I've found in Mex. so far.

If your headed to CC, check out these roads. Well worth it. Mind you, if you ride like I do, your tires will suffer big time.

Plenty of dirt tracks from Durango on south too. No specific I can remember.
I remember some very nice paved roads in Guatemala but loads of traffic.

we met in Ensenada! Mitch with Michelle and Gord. I'm by myself now and hanging out in San Cristobal de las Casas, state of Chiapas as of 13 Oct.

Don't know anything about roads in C.A., but as for Mex I've really enjoyed staying on the libres. They are twisty and fun, but tend to take time so give yourself plenty of it. Nothing like coming up to a major junction that says "MEX 190 left" AND "MEX 190 right" AND "MEX 190 straight through" to get you a little twisted, since none of the towns mentioned are on either of my two maps, nor is the junction!

Such a difficult choice - there are soooooooo many great ones. Just a few examples :
Of course in Guatemala , CA 1, the Pan -American highway through Guatemala's western highlands from the Mexican border to Chimaltenango ( exit to Antigua Guatemala). CA 14 from El Rancho and CA 9 in the Motagua Valley up into the mountains to Coban and beyond.
In Panama the road from David up to Boquete and the back roads up there. The higway from CA 1 north up and over the mountain spine to the north coast and Bocas del Toro and then to the border with the Costa Rica border at Gualaca.
In Costa Rica the road up to the top of Poas Volcano on a rain free day.The highway from the interior past Arenal Volcano then along Arenal LAke ( a bit rough) and then via Tilaran down hill into the Guanacaste zone andCA 1 .
Many more........

Although they are digging up a good 30 mile section of the PanAm just when it climbs back into the mountains, which makes it a touch scary as the chicken buses don´t slow down at all. That first stretch after the Mexican border is still a dream, though.

I loved the road (Mex80??) that runs more or less due south of Oaxaca down to the coast. No maps with me, and a poor memory, so I forget the town it goes to. But ít´s about 100 miles of twisties and open corners, through stunning scenery.

I would point you guys over to the road I call the "Northern Tier Road" through Guatemala. This is the road from Huehuetenango over towards Coban. Gorgeous roads through the mountains with small villages, you will be lovin' it on your DR650s. I rode this road a few times in the early/mid 1990s when it was all a rough jeep trail and there was no other access to these Maya communities. Most of the road is now paved (though narrow in places). It is still dirt once you get over towards Cunen (awesome views of this town which is in a valley below the road).
