The trip begins (almost)
After several years of planning and saving we had finally decided to start our BIg Trip on September 1st this year. We then got some life changing news that my daughter, Leslie, was pregnant. We could hardly be off in Argentian when the baby is due. This made us change our plans which is great. Leslie will have a couple of weeks of in September and come and visit us. I am sure this will include a lot of shopping for very small pieces of clothing. She will then go back home to Playa del Carmen. We will then spend October, November and a week of December getting to Playa. We don't have any set route but we will visit Tajin and Calakmul and camp as much as posible. We will then spend December, January (when the baby is due) and February in Playa and then head south.
This is all very exciting and all of us and becoimng a grandfather when I stop working is the icing on the cake. Wish us luck please. |
FELICIDADES ABUELITO !!!
Looking forward to see you next year down here |

Just kidding...all the best to the soon to be grandparents!:D |
I guess life slows down once you become a grandfather. We will need regular stops for a nap in the afternoon plus backtracking to get things we have left behind because of the onset of Alzheimers.
It will still beat starting work at 6am every morning. |

First the newly painted fence, next the big trip begins then a granddaughter ..... nothing by halves eh!! Outstanding guys, as promised we have started a small database of people to stay with within the ADVenture and Hubb circles but so far you probably know more contacts than we do. We may even cross paths again at the rate we are travelling :mchappy: Best wishes and luv to you all. Andi & Ellen |
On behalf of all the former guests of the Garry Hostel congratulations to you and Ivonne.
I hope to see you guys some where in South America next year Ian J |
:thumbup1: From another guest of the Garry Hostel, I am so happy that the time has come for your dream trip. Not to mention, the arrival of a new grandchild at the same time. Good things happen to good people. Have a wonderful time.

Ian- I hope we can arrange to bump into each other somewhere next year.
Tom- I guess you made it home ok. It was great having the 2 of you at home. Hope to see you sometime in the future. |
Well a giant step was taken the day before yesterday when I resigned from work after 36 years in the company. I was able to get a very good deal as the boss owed me some money so I´ll get paid for the next 6 months (unless he is not as good as his word)
August 30th will be my last day at work. Anybody wanting to come to Mex City between now and the last week of September is very welcome. |
Congratulations Garry
So I guess your life will consist of 1) Planning for the Big Trip 2) Actually going on the Big Trip 3) Recovering from the Big Trip 4) Doing all the jobs around the house that you promised Ivonne you were going to do for the last 36 years  All the best, see you on the road somewhere Ian J |
Very exciting! I look forward to catching up on Monday!

I had both feelings, over the moon when I was given my redundancy then on the day of it happening totally numb. Congrats to Leslie. Are you taking Ivonnes mother with you ? :-) |
Congratualtions Gary on becoming a grandfather and retiring. I will be retiring within the next 8 months after 37 years of working and will be riding through Mexico and points South soon

Things are Falling into place
Another step toay. I sols my little Suzuki 125 commuter bike. I got a good price and the new owner seems like a nice guy. I hope it serves him as well as it did me. I rode it to work almost everyday for over 3 years and the biggest problem was a torn diaphragm in the carb. Over 31,000 kms and that was it. Time will tell if I should have sold the V-Strom instead!!
Everything is working out as planned perhaps I need a plan B. |
