Shipping bikes from Panama to Colombia anyone?

Hi there,

After a sour experience with La Poste Maxi (no) boat, we are looking for an alternative to ship our bikes to Colombia.
Anyone has some space left in a container leaving soon (for 2 motos)?

I remember reading about 2 air cargo companies on this forum, but somehow I can't find the thread anymore. Could anyone name them?

Thank you very much!

Air freight

I believe that most folks use Girag, I used Copa in 2009, but am unsure if they still ship motorcycles. They are found at the cargo terminal at Panama City Airport and paperwork can be closed out at the guardhouse.

I'm looking to ship a bike, too. Three of us could join up and share a container, hopefully find another bikers or a car...?

I'll PM you with my contact.

Can you expand on what your bad experience with La Poste Maxi was? I am considering taking the boat from Colombia to Panama since there are limited options with the Stahlratte being in the Carribean right now.

Also, there are two contacts for air cargo companies you can look into:
ggeneral@aircargopack.com (John Fabio)
comercial@cargorider.com.co (Veronica Masquera)

Shipping by boat?

Hi, does anyone have updated information on getting from Panama to Colombia by boat?

We are two Norwegians riding from Canada to Argentina and plan to cross(?) the Darian Gap in December/January. I got in contact with Stahlratte, but will have their final sailings in November this year and then move up to Cuba. We will prefer the adventure of sailing our self and our bikes, but are also looking into shipping by air or container.

I reached out to La Poste and asked about transporting my R1200GS from Puerto Lindo to Cartegena. His response: "No, Colombian police is not allowing bikes on sailboat". He also confirmed that the ship is for sale.

His recommendation was to fly the bike or have it shipped in a container. Said it would be safer that way.

I plan to travel from Panama to Colombia at the end of January or early February. Would be happy to share a container.

Careful...

Be careful with boats offering that service.
Check if there are any reports of people who took them before.
If you don't find anything don't pay a deposit!
Example:

Other boats might really bring you to Colombia but have no experience with the importation of motorcycles. They often just don't care and let you try your luck with the authorities wich often leads to a lot of trouble...
Right now if you put your bike on land in Cartagena without having insurance and customs it is illegal.

I could not agree more with campervantravels. Boris is your best bet to safely ship your bike from Panama to Colombia. For real reviews & feedback you can also check: https://www.facebook.com/groups/panamtravelers/

Hi there, new to posting on this forum. I will also be looking into a container for two 250 dual sports, and would be happy to share if timing works out. We are two Canadians traveling from Canada to South America. Timing should be around January 2018. Currently in Mexico.

Air cargo panama to bogata

Copa air
Garage air

$1295 US +$300 Per person
Go to the Panama A/P check with both airlines, to see when you & your bike can fly together.
They'll strap it to a metal skid, disconnect the battery & drain most gas.
Deflate the tires & your set.

Might have to wait 2 or 3 days.

Shipping bike fromColombia to Panama

To all travelers with motorbikes:

29.04.2018

If you travel from Colombia to Panama you have the option to go to Cartagena or go to Turbo.
The option Cartagen I don’t know. But the option Turbo - Capurgana - Porto Obaldia - Carti yeas.
You have to take a boat in Turbo for your motorcycle. Your bike will travel alone to Capurgana, because it is not allowed to transport goods and passengers together.

Today we do have a traveler in our Hostal Capurgana who came from Carti, Panama to Capurgana with a Honda 250ccm

In Carti he had to wait 2 days until he could find a transport to Porto Obaldia. Panama Border.
For a private boat for yourself and your bike you pay around USD 1'000.-- and more.

He did find a boat with more passengers but he had to stay on the islands overnight.
It took him 3 days and 600 USD.

From Porto Obaldia to Capurgana he paid USD 80.--

Tomorrow he is going to Turbo. The bike is around 120 USD. The boat for himself is about USD 25.--

Depending how heavy your bike is so prices can change.

There are fishermen they take you bike from Capurgana to Panama. But this will be quickly over 1'000.—USD.

Feel free to ask for more information.
