Mexico Where to go/see

Hi all, will be entering through Matamoros next week and wanted to leave my route open. Would appreciate any ideas of what to see and where to go/stay. My only goal is too put a few good hours south behind me the first day. There is so much do not even know where to start...... Or if you are there would love to hook up.

Hey Roameo: Ride carefully and hope to see you on the road. Another 34 days and I'm on the road too:D. Some suggestions, Oaxaca, Agua Azual in Chiapas, San Cristobol de las casas,

Cheers Growler (Philip)

This is such a general question that any answer is difficult Roameo.
How much time are you going to spend in Mexico, what is your general route plan, what interests you ? These are useful points you might have included to help any person think of suggestions.
In general I would suggest just head down folow your own interests ,take it all in calmly, set no destinations and deadlines and enjoy the ride.Stop at whatever catches your interest and explore any road that goes somwhere that intrigues you.
Do read this bit I posted on another site down page there Mexico and Central America Ride Planning and Road Wisdom - Page 7 - ADVrider
It will come in to play the minute you cross into Matamoros.
And do not panic if you get into Matamorros a bit late in the day.Matamoros has plenty of good hotels and you will not get shot up in traffic, for instance Hotel Sexta Avenida , which is straight south of the plaza a t #502 Calle 6 the main street south out of the city center and from the bridge which eventually turns into Mex101/180.
If you make it as far as San Fernando you can pick out of a bunch of good hotels and I like staying at Teno's Hotel which is south of downtown and west of the river bridge on the N side of the in- city route of Mex 180.Do not be scared off by the fact that This city appeared in some news stories a while back, it is quite calm now.
Take it easy and enjoy

Sjored great info, will read the ADV article. Thanks for the hotel info as well will write down just in case. Hoping to hit matamoros in the morning still just for my comfort zone. I am going to ask for the full six months as I have time but really am open to my direction and will just go with the flow. Will just take some getting used to as it will be completely new experience as I leave the comfort zone of the US, but that is the point.

Mike Mike I am coming down the East and Central so yes any info maps would be appreciated. Should be hitting the border in a few days as I had to get a new set of tires!

Send me a PM and I can forward things to your email.
Good weather will be holding here for at least the next 3 days.
Watch the weather carefully if you are heading down the east coast after Wednesday. There are two eastern weather waves that could be moving into the area by Thursday and this means rain, really serious rain as there isn't any other kind at this time of year! LOL!

If you havent already purchased Sjoerd's hotel books, I highly recommend them. The man put a lot of work into them and they make planning so much easier.

Amazing things happen when you leave out a space between a verb and a singular undetermined article followed by a word beginning with a consonant.
I think that is the first time Sjoerd has ever been called that. LOL!
