Mexico to Costa Rica

Hey everyone,
my girlfriend and I are having a year off from work.
We have booked a flight to Mexico - Puerto Escondido to learn a bit more spanish and practice surfing.

We are thinking about to buy two small (125 - 250cc) bikes and ride to Costa Rica.
So the route would be Mexico - Guatemala - Honduras - Nicaragua - Costa Rica.
We tried to figure out if boarder crossings are allowed with a bike but found mixed informations.

Is someone of you traveling in Central America with a bike and has any information if this would be possible?
Is it even possible with a mexican license plate to ride through those countries as a foreigner?

Any information would be helpful!
Thanks and save rides!

You might start with figuring out how to legally buy a bike in Mexico, a process which sounds to me somewhat fraught. Lots of posts about this which can presumably be found with a site search. It's been my understanding that it's easier to purchase and register in Guatemala.

It is certainly possible to cross all borders (COVID restrictions aside) with a bike registered in your name.

Hope that's helpful.

Buying and registering a bike in Guatemala as a tourist is very easy and having Guatemalan license plates makes border crossing in the CA4 much easier .

Mexico-Ushuaia

Long time ago.

But...
Simon went to Mexico and bought a Brazilian made Honda 125 cc.
The Honda Cargo. "Pizza delivery bike"
https://www.honda.com.mx/motos/gl-150-cargo
Perfect bike for solo riding. Made for cargo instead of passenger....

And he traveled from Mexico to Ushuaia and back to New York.

No problems when it comes to Mexican bike
