Last post for me on this topic, & I agree with your comments Grant.

The bike we took to Europe was fine, we did survive and our time there was limited, however; knowing what I know from that trip, if I were doing a RTW, or any long term travelling, for my likes, I'd take the bike that suits the travelling conditions; that way, I could choose my route instead of the bike choosing it for me. (If you know what I mean)

As always, great site and I enjoy everyones perspectives.

From Lend's description, it sounded like he was going to use an Aspencade. A Harley dresser would not suffer all the potential problems of an Aspencade for this trip. However, I would be conscious of ground clearance while setting the bike up for this trip. I was just reading the Motorcycle Consumer News test of the 883L with 3" ground clearance. It would hurt to watch that bike try to clear an 8" tall tope.

While I would hate to discourage someone from taking a trip because their bike is not the most suitable, the other side of the coin is that it makes sense to use more or less the right tool for the job. I believe that motorcycling is a preparation game, and selecting a suitable bike and setting it up for a specific journey is part of that preparation.

I'm at the gym, working the stairstepper and reading "American Motorcyclist" the magazine of the American Motorcyclist Association, and in the "Right to Ride" section they detail a confrontation between local police and a motorcycle club holding a dual sport event. They quote a "Mike Stone, an AMA Congress Delegate and Vice President of the New England Trail Riders Association". Is that you??

Hi Grant, I´m puzzled, what has all the stuff you keep sending me e-mails about got to do with me being ripped off at a border crossing? Can you please delete me from this particular mailing list. Regards, Mike Anderson

Good point...

Since this is WAY off topic, I'm closing it down.

Please start a new thread if you have any further comments.
