Guatemala to Mexico cross to Echeverria
 

I'll be in the Yucatan in April and May of this year. I'm trying to find some information about crossing from Guatemala into mexico along the Rio Usumacinta.

I had heard that you can cross via boat at Frontera Echeverria but I'm having a hard time finding details about this crossing and others that may lie along the river.

Any information about crossing this border along the Rio Usumacinta would be appreciated.

None of the border(river)crossings along the Usumacinta has a Banejercito(that's where you get you TVIP) on the mexican side or an Aduana at the guatemalan side . The closest fully equipped border to the Usumacinat is at El Ceibo.

Other people have posted that they took care of Guatemalan vehicle formalities in Flores, after crossing from Mexico, but I have no personal experience.

It can not be done in Flores , you can go all the way to Melchor de Mencos(border with Belize) and have it done there . Keep in mind , that means covering quiet some distance inside Guatemala without any papers for your bike....

Thanks for the quick responses! If I were to travel through Mexico with my TVIP , cross into Belize keeping my TVIP and then crossing into Guatemala at the Belize border. Could I not enter Mexico with the same TVIP at a crossing with no place to get a new TVIP.

I'm not opposed to seeing more of Guatemala but I was only trying to find a way to make a loop of the Yucatan in the short time I have to travel this year.

Yes, the Mexican TVIP is multiple entry. In your scenario, you would not be able to cancel your Guatemalan TVIP on the way out, which may or may not be a problem if you ever go back to Guatemala.

My favorite Maya ruin is Tikal, and is right on this route and well worth a visit, if you haven't been there.

Frontera Echeverria on some maps is now also called frontera Corozal. No aduana facility inMexico. some do haul their bikes a cross the river by boat and manage with the paperwork elsewhere-
The Mexican TVIP situation is in flux right now but ther e is apparently hope that it is for multiple re entries during its valid period.
There are even reports of bikes being shipped across to GT from Benemerito de las Americas farther upstream with the option of taking the boat all the way to Sayaxche. And there is an unguarded land border off Mex 307 which gives acces to Playa Grande Guatemala. All such crossings are at your own risk.
They may not take kindly to tourists riding around without the proper documentation and getting out without that paperwork will reall test your patience

The Carretera Fronteriza
 

Any word or advice on that Carretera Fronteriza that runs along the border of Mexico through Benemerito de las Americas? We're about to ride it, probably tomorrow. Thanks!

A bit short notice there , Einocent.Sorry I missed it last week but a one day lead time for a route question is a bit tight.
Anyway you also forgot to specify which direction you planned on doing it, it makes a slight difference as to where you need to spend the night because to do it in one day is a waste of scenery.
No doubt by now you have already done it and discovered that it is called highway Mex 307 and it is a very good paved route,Pemex in Benemerito, barrel gas in several other places like Frontera Corozal(on the riverbank 16km east off Mex 307) ,hotels in both these places and several other smaller hamlets-if you look.
Hope you knew that you could have taken a boat tour from Fr.Corozal to Yaxchilan ruins, and/ or the tour of the ruins of Bonampak a bit farther north and then west from their welcome center-- by bus only.
All pretty jungle type country but lots of it has been knocked down to make farms and African oil palm plantations. Some nice mountainriding in the southern E toW section and some spectacular vista points to the mountains of Guatemala.

We also managed to see Bonampak, which was just fine, and Yachitlan, which was really cool since we took a fun boat ride and we had the place to ourselves. Hearing the howler monkeys in the near distance was nuts. Also, we definitely got some pics of those vista points you mentioned.
