Favour Needed in Guatemala City

Hey Folks!!! Buddy and I are 9 weeks into our trip of a life time and loving it! We left Vancouver BC on October 16th and are currently doing a homestay studying Spanish in Xela, Guatemala. I have a huge favour and am hoping there is someone in the community that can help me. I have a Conference/Awards ceremony I must attend in Austin Texas on January 4th and 6th. I am hoping to find someone on here who lives in, or knows someone who lives in Guatemala City where I can safely leave my bike for what would probably be a little over 48 hours!

Any help is much appreciated!

Cheers,

Benji

Sort of a simple question with obvious answer ,that one.

You are riding your bike to Guatemala City a day early and will likely need to overnight in a hotel there before and after your flight . So ,unless you find a contact willing to accept storage ,why not go to the City and book into a nice hotel which has secure off-street parking where you will leave your bike under care of the vigilancia, for a fee if required. There are plenty of such hotels in many parts of the city center . If you had my book all three Zona 1 listings will do very nicely.
For starters have a look at , and ask prices and parking security , at Hotel Clariss at 8 AV 16-12 Z1
,then down the street a block check out the situation at Hotel Quetzali at 8 Av 16-44 Z1 and one block east of H Clariss you can check out the facilities at Hotel Excel at 9Av 15-12 Z1. Theer are literally hundreds more hotels you could try all over the place . Don't be faze by the Guate street numbering system , it works ! Just type these addresses into the Google map search and they will show up.
A fancy hotel near the airport might cut down the taxi travel time a bit but might be too big and impersonal with the vigilancia.
To get to the airport get the hotel to call you a good taxi, and when you return you might phone that same taxi service to pick you up.

I agree with Sjoerd. We left our bike in a hotel near the airport in Guayaquil Ecuador while we went to Galápagos. They even stored all our riding gear in a closet until our return. Very easy, no hassle.

Hi Benji, You can message me in private I could help you out if you want, but I agree with Sjoerd the hotel is probably the easiest solution for you since the hotel will also offer you free transportation to the airport too. But if you decide you want parking and pay a cab to the airport you can reach me in pm.

Cheers

David
