Copper Canyon, Mexico

Does anyone have any advice on the best route from Los Michos into the Copper Canyon? We will be arriving on a ferry from Baja to around that area, and I know that the Train leaves from Los Michos to Chihuahua, but is there also a road that connects the two that goes through the Canyon?
How much time would be recommended for the area? And are there a lot of places to pull over and camp for the night, or is safety and issue? Two of us will be on a Yamaha 750 Tenere, with 2 panniers each side and loaded up at the back...will the terrain be difficult during July for this load?
Thanks for any advice.

There is a route that kindof follows the rail route from the west through to Batopilas. well ok, it's quite a bit south in places. It's not marked on most maps however.. I don't have my map in front of me and it's been a while since I was there so I can't be accurate about it. However be aware that I was warned about this road. There have been government trucks ambused there and shot up pretty badly. Also locals held up. If you're in a group it's possibly ok though. The warning I got about this road was from people living in Batopilas so take that as you wish. I personally went a fair way down it on my own.

Hey,
This is a great area! Now, I'm in Creel. First I have plane to stay one night, but now, I'm 2 weeks in Creel. Creel has a lot of hotels. I stay in the hostle Magarita on the placa. It cost 80 Pesos per night in the doom incl. dinner and brackfast. I park my bike in the front. But if you need a safty place to parking your bike, you can stay in a more expencive hotel or ask in the Touristinformation. It calls "The 3 Amigos".
There are realy frindly and helpful. They have a homepage: http://the3amigoscanyonexpeditions.com/
From Creel you are in 5 hours in Batopilas. They have a lot of hotels, too.
Another great road is the Hwy 16 from Chihuahua to Hermosillo. It'a a paved route in the mountains with many loops. It's fun to drive http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/smile.gif
Have fun!
Oliver
