Bike for sale Central America
 

My son and myself have been traveling down from Oregon and my time in Central America is coming to an end, so I reluctantly will be selling my bike.
The bike is a 2014 KLR 650. Has only done 7000 miles and in excellent condition. Fully kited out with aluminium side panniers and soft top luggage. Currently in El Salvador heading towards Panama.
As the bike is registered in Washington State the title is easily transferred to American and non american citizens.

You'll know that each border requires you to import the bike. It's a formal and registered process. Same in reverse when you leave each country ... the bike gets stamped out. As you know you need your title at each border. The CA countries know what a USA title looks like, and you'll have difficulty photo-shopping one in another name without being sprung. It's the computer era.

I sold my USA titled KLR650 about 18 months ago in Guatemala. It was a legitimate and legal sale to a Guatemalan. We had the sale notorised, the buyer paid all taxes associated with importation.

A few guys on this site know alot more than me about this .... but it seems you'll have difficulty selling (in central America) unless someone is prepared to import it, because you've formally imported it in your name for a defined amount of time. Your asking price dictates.

It's line-ball whether to sell in CA or transport back to the States and sell. You can store your bike for only a certain amount of time and each CA country is different, unless you import or use a bond store. Mexico is most liberal, but bonded stores are available throughout CA where you can store indefinately.

Earlier this year I rode a DL650 down to Panama, titled in my name in UT. The bond store costs in CR and Nica were high, very high, so I decided to transport the bike back to the USA and sold it there. It was financially a better option.

turn round & ride it back, will be cheaper & probably less time consuming than shipping, hard but do-able in a week to the US then transport it from there.

That's what I did. Can be done in 3 days to the USA border if you hammer it and stick to the toll roads in Mexico. Once in the USA store it and return later, or sell.
