Baja Route 5 to San Felipe

Can anyone advise me in regards to the usual road conditions on Mexico's Route 5 towards and past San Felipe till you reach Route 1 ?

Thanks in advance

Rough pavement with some large dips between San Felipe and Puertecitos. New pavement then and for 6 miles past Gonzaga Bay. Another 13 miles of pavement should be open by year end. Last 13 miles is very rocky dirt, slow in a car/truck but fine on a bike. Semi trucks are using it daily.

Actually, the new paved road ends just past Rancho Grande, (just past Gonzaga), only goes a mile or two past Rancho Grande? Then about 12 miles or dirt/rocks to Coco's Corner and another 12 or 15 to Mex 1. All doable but rough on the bike if going fast.

You are correct, very rough and rocky due to all sorts of road building trucks, including HUGE Semi trucks. I rode it 3 weeks ago ... at night! What Fun! doh bent a rim!

Open by year's end? Not a chance. I'd guess May or June of 2015 if no delay's crop up. Probably longer as they haven't even got to the mountains yet. Several ranges to cross.

Road is paved for 13 miles south of Rancho Grande. I was there Dec 27th. From pavement end to Coco's is in good shape (relative), extremely rocky from Coco's to Hwy 1. Fair amount of traffic when we were there.
