Baja CA/Mexico Trip

Looking at riding down from Yuma AZ to Ensenada and the Mexico 1 all the way to Cabo San Lucas again. Just wanted to check to see if there was any problems/construction I should be aware of an plan for?

There are never problems in Baja unless you look for them. You might encounter some road construction in different parts but nothing out of the ordinary.

Lots of road construction in Mexico now (dry season). Not sure about that stretch from Yuma West over to Ensenada. I'd avoid Mexicali, take the highway that dips South and misses Mexicali. Once further WEST, take Mex 3 South from Tecate. (mountainous, fun!). Goes all the way to Ensenada. Or ... cut over to coast from Tecate and take coastal Toll road on down to Ensenada. Some nice views along the way ... but there is some construction as brand new road washed out last year.

Also, from Yuma, looks like some Toll roads ... TAKE THEM. (called CUOTA in Spanish) There may be construction along there if the Toll road is not finished. So you can have LONG stretches of DIRT, sometimes MUD as you bypass the construction. The few extra $ the toll roads cost are well worth it, IMHO. bier

I would not tackle this area at night ... especially out of Yuma paralleling the USA border. Once to Tecate all is mellow on the roads. I've done ALL those roads at night many times. Good headlights A MUST!

It will take A LOT longer than you think. The roads are NOT interstates and can be challenging in places ... keep speeds mellow until you get used to the way the roads/conditions are.

Rubber Side Down! :scooter:

Road conditions good.

We are currently in La Paz, we road route 5 to route 1. Some road construction just out side of LaPaz, hard packed dirt, not bad. If you plan to cross over to the Mainland get your stamp and visitor ticket at the crossing. They will tell you not to worry, but it is a pain in the rear tire to correct you might say. Thank heavens, we found some friendly folk in La Paz to help.
If I may recommend www.hotelyenka.com I will. Very fun interesting place to stay, they have the bikes right in side the court yard.
:mchappy: happy riding.
