Anyone in Guatemala, El Salvador, or Honduras right now?
 

My fiance and I had been planning a trip though Latin America with our Ural sidecar rig. It was all going great until she got that email from home. The family emergency kind. Less than 24 hours later, she was gone on a one-way ticket.
I can't bring myself to cancel this trip, even though the chances of her catching back up with me within the next 6 months are slim to none.
That said, I am now really lonely. I'm not looking for a shoulder to cry on or anything like that, but just someone/some people to share some riding with and maybe hang out for the occasional (or routine) beer.
By the way, I'm heading south.

We are now in Chiapas, Mexico and plan to cross the border into Guatemala within a few days. Few weeks there (incl. 1 or 2 weeks of Spanish lessons, as we spoke way too much English with Garry and his wife ;-)).

Don't know how far south you are already, but perhaps you can simply join for the courses? Nice routine, and plenty of time for beer I would say!

I'm in San Salvador now and will be up to Perquin tomorrow (Sunday the 21st). From there, I'm hoping to cross at the border and go up into Honduras. I'll be at the D&D Brewpub on Lake Yojoa for a bit then head up to the Bay Islands for some diving.
I would join you for the Spanish course in Guatemala, but we already did that! We spent 1 month in Xela (Quetzaltenango) doing a course there. I would highly recommend it as it's a better place to learn Spanish than (overly touristy) Antigua.
By the way, if you do decide to go to Xela, I would highly recommend spanish school 'Sol Latino'. They have a great little school, fantastic teachers, good secure parking for motos (which they were happy to let me do work on the bike there too), and have good prices. I would also recommend to stay in one of their on site shared apartments. Let me know if you want more details.
Anyway, depending on what you're doing after your course, maybe we could meet up after? Keep in touch and I'll do the same.

Just before the border, military will stop you and will not let you pass and there is no arguing with them only if you entered Salvador from this border crossing the will let you go back using this border.
It is a beautiful road to get there, so it would not be a waste trying it

I turned back and used El Poy to get in Honduras, another beautiful road up to 2200 meters @ the Honduran side

My girl Jill and I are currently in Jocotàn, Guatemala. We will be in El Salvador within the next couple days, and then have some commitments in Perquín until the 5th of Sept. Sounds like we are just behind you...

Our next leg will take us through Honduras fairly quickly towards Managua. We have a bit of a schedule to get to Colombia, as we need to be in Suriname by Dec 1st, but that still gives us enough time to enjoy the ride. Hopefully somewhere through here we can catch you for a beer.

We have a ride report on ADVrider, and a blog that we keep somewhat up to date. The map at top right of our blog is the most accurate for our current location, as we slack too often. As we get further along, we´ll check back here to see where you are at.

Sidecar in Nicaragua
 

Hi Tiler,
I hope you did not have any problem crossing into Honduras in Perquin. I made that mistake a while ago, the official at the border let me get into Honduras without giving me any paperwork for the bike, I asked him couple of times if it was ok and said just with the title and DL I would be fine. By the time I tried to get out of the country I was going to have to pay a fine of US$200, but I was lucky to be able to cross into Nicaragua without paying anything. Also, I was so lucky I did not get pulled over on the road, the cops could confiscate my bike if you do not have the proper customs paperwork.

We are now in Nicaragua riding south, hope to be in Costa Rica by the first week of Sep. Let's keep in touch to see if we can catch up any time an ride the sidecar together, it would be such a cool thing to do.

I crossed that border (they had no problem letting me leave El Salvador/enter Honduras) and I didn't get any kind of paperwork at all.
Has this happened to anyone else and if so, what happened when leaving Honduras?

We had just heard that the Perquin border was open for business, including aduana services, but that rumor just fizzled after reading these posts.
