If anyone hears anything from other sources I am anxious to hear it. I realize that there have been several false starts but this one looks like it might pan out.

This is great ... hope you can make the crossing. I hope you'll take time to post your experiences here on HUBB. Hopefully you can connect with an actual person soon and find out if this is for real ... and:
1. when service is set to start?
2. Are prices still the same as listed on the Web ad?

I've sailed on modern German and Norwegian ferries. They are very nice boats, cabins are great, very clean, well maintained (in Europe at least).

Even the German built Ferry that sails from La Paz, Baja to Mazatlan is a beautiful boat and very FAST!! They do slow down a bit when loaded with too many big semi trucks. If not overloaded they can really MOVE!

Good luck, safe travels! bier

I think October 24 is the advertised kick off date. I was hoping someone who is in Panama or Colombia would pop up with some first hand information.

An acquaintance travelling RTW in a jeep is currently in Panama and booked on for October 27 from Panama to Colombia, apparently it is the first day of operation.

Could you post if he actually makes the trip.

Alisons Wanderland 13 Oct 2014 16:37

There is a very good chance this is happening. By that I mean it will make a maiden voyage (there is plenty of news here about it here in Panama and people / riders are purchasing tickets), but it's longevity is yet to be seen. As long as the aduanas get along, it sounds like it will become a viable option for transportation.

The first departure from Panama is scheduled to be Monday, 27 October.

grug 2 Nov 2014 14:50

Does any one know if it's operating as scheduled?

juanvaldez650 2 Nov 2014 15:12

It is operating! For how long who knows. I am planning to catch it Panama to Colombia on December 1.

A few different people have taken the ferry from Panama to Colombia and also from Colombia to Panama. They've put lots and lots of details into WikiOverland, the encyclopedia of Overland travel

All the details, including price breakdown, very detailed instructions of sailing in each direction and all the paperwork requirements can be found at Panama to colombia car ferry xpress - WikiOverland

The ferry is up and running. Cost about $400 for two guys and motorcycle in a cabin. Only five motorcycle on the December 4 trip.
