UK-France-Spain in April-May
 

Hi there,

I'm planning to travel from the Uk to Spain around April and was wondering what kind of gear I would need (I'm not sure about the amount of rain or how cold it may be on a bike), considering that my budget is very limited, but I like creative solutions (such as layering http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/smile.gif

I don't own a bike yet, nor any gear. I believe the essentials are helmet, waterproof jacket and gloves, but I'd like to hear your suggestions.

thats like asking a complete stranger what you like to eat and drink!
you can do this trip on a puch moped wearing homemade binliner waterproofs, or you can do the long way round overkill way with BMW sponsorship and a support jeep.
somewhere in between will suit you sir!

(personally id go for the puch, sounds much more fun)

the gear you get depends 100% on what you intend to do with it, from your socks to your motorbike. camping or hostels? road or offroad? how many miles per day average? are you doing a lot of walking or just riding? do you want bombproof or easily replacable stuff?

the only thing i will say is that at some point IT WILL RAIN, and if your going overland into spain IT WILL GET COLD up them thar hills. so a breathable suit with removeable thermal lining is a must really. good value, can be had for a good price, much more versatile than packing seperate waterproofs, leathers, long johns etc. and all day comfortable.
everything else is personal preference. you can get good ideas going through all the old threads on HuBB, what works and what dont.
