Slow leak on Exped Synmat
 

My Synmat UL has a slow leak. About three quarters into the night there is not much air left in there. Sunk the mat in a tub of water and could not see bubbles. I read the bit about leaky valves, cleaned them, so far no luck.

Anyone has advice or experience with this?

Fortunately, I have not had this problem, but it might help to find the leak if you compress the mattress while underwater. That is, maybe fold up one end of it and stick the other end in the water. If you increase the pressure inside the mattress (as if you're laying on it) the leak should show itself more easily.

SOLUTION

First off, highly suggest reading the manual and even watching the videos. Repairs are dead simple.

In my case there was a pinhole size puncture that blew bubbles in water only when the fabric was stretched a certain way. It took some time and patience.

Root cause: I am pretty sure this happened the night I inflated my pad on the picnic table. I suspect the abrasive surface was too much for the UL fabric; the dealer had warned me that reduced weight and size of the UL are payoff against a more sensitive product then, say, a Downmat.

Moral of story: Inflate your UL on a protected surface (tent floor?) and if you do get a puncture, be patient.

Get it in the bath and squeeze like a mad yin till you find the leak, then get the puncture repair kit out,(bike ones do superb)
