Silly soap.
 

Silly question.
I was chatting to someone about camping and was asked what soap to use.
They were after a bar soap that doesn't go mushy and lasts a long time.
I tend to use any one I can get my hands on and prefer a bar to liquid soap but does anyone have a recommendation?
I'm told that traditional and home made soap tends not to go mushy but any ideas?

Bio degradeable liquid soap.
Wash self, clothes, cooking stuff and bike without harming the environment.
A little goes a loooooooong way.

soap isnt very nice stuff

I tend to bottle up some of whatever shower gel I've got kicking about and take that but you can get multi-purpose travel soaps that will wash you, your clothes, your food.

I have washed clothes quite happily with shower gel but I don't really fancy salad that tastes of Old Spice.

Any info on long lasting soap tablets/bars?

get a catering pack of little individually wrapped soaps. they will last a while but no hardship when you need a new one.

I've tried a range of all-in-one products over the years, but have come across a travel soap called Kush (kush natural all-in-one travel soap) which does it all - really good, fine foam for shaving/hair, and works well in hard/brackish water. Even seems to work well getting oil off the hands after a tyre change. Another point in the liquid vs bar soap debate is that you can press one side of the bar into sand for an abrasive side.

someone told me that they got soap leaves. Paper-thin leaves of soap, just take one leave and wash your hands, test of the soap stays dry.

Take into account that the main problem with soap is that it will change the surface tension of the water. Even if it is biodegradeable and whatever, the Insects depending on the water surface caaaying them wil not appreciate you washing yourself near them.

It's not the soap, it's the way you use it. I have made up a bag out of a flannel, pop a bar of soap in the bag. Then use that. The soap will come through the bag, presto job done. Slip flannel soap bag in to a small plastic sandwich bag. Keeping it wet, to use next time. Work's a treat. Up side is you can use up all them odd bit's of end soap that get's binned because they are too small.

I do a very similar thing. One of those little mesh bags supplied with your box of washing machine tablets. Put in bag, use as normal and when finished either put in a zip-lock bag or air dry for 10 minutes while you dress.

Liquid soap in a reusable container (mine is a squeezy tube thing). That way you can refill it along the way.

Dish soap works in a pinch, I can assure you...
