But it did the job. And I didn't worry about getting it scratched or nicked as I would have done had I taken my carbon fibre full-face. And it was cooler in the heat, and felt less claustrophobic. I felt more "Out There". Which is, after all, what it's all about.

I will echo the comments made by others who have pointed out how much easier it makes conversations with locals at petrol stations, junctions, etc. Yeah yeah, I know you can take your full-face helmet off, but after the tenth time in an hour it becomes a bit of a pain, especially if you wear glasses as I do. And because it's a hassle, you tend not to bother. So you isolate yourself from the culture you are riding through.

I recognise that in an accident I could possibly say goodbye to my chin. But at the same time, the enhanced peripheral vision, especially in cities like Istanbul, made me actively safer. I'd take an open-face again, especially if travelling on a slower bike.

Totally agree :thumbup1:

I always use an open face lid, and I find the Lidl helmet very comfortable.

NO NO NO the boots are junk the secret to a good boot is if you can bend it , I have had 4 pairs of boots:

Akito monzas
Duchinni racers
2xSidi Vertigos

The difference is this the Akito Monzas were junk , to test a boot try and bend the sole downwards if you can the boot is junk , all expensive boots cannot be bent downwards.

Your feet can bend upwards it just dislocates your toes which can be popped back in at the side of the road.... But they cannot bend downwards as it breaks bones and tears muscles and flesh. Hence a cheap boot only really has protection on the shin on the moulded bit of plastic and thats it.

If it is soft on the sides you might as well wear trainers in that boots are supposed to be fairly unmaleble so that if your foot gets crushed the hard bits re-direct the force of the weight, if it REALLY gets crushed it holds your foot sort of like a splint and thus prevents further damage ideally.
