Jungle hammocks

Has anyone had experiences with using a jungle hammock on their tour?</p>

I bought a Hennessy Hammock (http://www.hennessyhammock.com/)
for last summer's bike tour in east Europe and the Alps, and there the experiences were mostly good.

The hammock is swift to set up and pack and requires very little space. It is also designed so that you can sleep comfortably straight in a diagonal position, and keeps you quite dry even in heavy rain or flooding ground.

While you're not sleeping on the ground, you still need some insulation under you because your body weight squeezes the sleeping bag. After one cold night I bought a small space blanked for this purpose -- this seemed to work very well with my ultralight summer sleeping bag.

However, the obvious question with hammock is what to do when there are no trees. My solution to this was to attach one end of the hammock to my motorcycle and one end to a fence, but I guess two about one meter long sticks and some rocks to hold the ropes might work too. This setup would work quite OK in semi-hard terrain if you have tent stakes.

Has anyone had experiences with using such a setup on a longer tour or in mostly non-forested areas?

Hmmm, I've been looking at these too, and also wondering what to do when there are no trees or in very windy conditions.

How is your going? Have you used it again?

Exactly how did you attach it to your bike? I love my bike, but I don't want it throwing itself on top of me in the middle of the night.

HikingHQ.net has some info about how the hammock handles rough weather conditions.

Well, it has been winter here in Finland, so I haven't done any touring after that trip.

But I'm definitely going to use it on my next month-long trip to Russia and East Europe this summer. And my riding buddies seem to be pretty convinced as well, as they just ordered they hammocks for the upcoming trip.

I just tied it to the forks. I was also a bit worried about the bike falling, but figured that since the bike leans to the other direction, and weights quite much more than me this wouldn't be a problem.

If you're concerned about this one option is to set the bike so that your hammock is hanging directly to the front or rear of it.
