Bringing tent for Europe to India trip -Worth it?

Hi everyone,

I thought I had seen a post about this but could not find it. We have been lugging around a tent for months now and are getting sick of all the weight. Tomorrow we leave for the south of France and then eventually Turkey-Syria-Lebanon-Jordan-Iran-Pakistan-India. Should we ditch the tent? We like camping (did lots in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay) but I think it will be too cold to camp in Europe the next two weeks and after that I wonder if it will be worth the extra weight.

What do you think?

camping

Hi there,
It depends on your budget- Europe is very expensive for rooms as is Iran. Turkey has limited options for formal camping but locals, especially in rural areas, should be accommodating.
Iran isn't too bad- each town seems to have a park area where locals are able to camp. We had a great time in Esfahan, there were no shower facilities but you could rent a tent- not sure if all city parks offer the rental option.
Pakistan may be a little more difficult due to staff being obsessed about 'security issues'- but from Islamabad up the Karakorum has good camping options.
India- you could camp BUT the rooms are so cheap you have to ask if it's worth the hassle. You'll have a great time on this route!
Check out our webpage for GPS information on places to camp and stay- includes facilities and prices details. Happy travels, Rose:thumbup1:
