Belstaff
 

Hi,

Looking to replace my faithful but now worn out Belstaff cordura touring jacket and trousers.

A look at the 'new' Belstaff website didn't reveal much in the way of a replacement.

Do they still make such things? If so, any recommendations?

I'm about to put my Richa cordura jacket on Ebay, its black and in pretty good nick. If you're interested, pm me and I can email you some pictures.

had a look at the NEC last month, the new belstaff stuff is pretty good, but bloody expensive. the 'long way down' pair wear examples of the brand.

Did you check the belstaff website or Britishmotorcyclegear.com? the bike stuff is on the latter website.

Some of the Hein Gericke stuff is nice.


I got the HG entry gortex jacket and trousers and I cant fault them.

Also they have a very good warranty with them.

Claymore Jackets are the dogs balls in motorcycle jacket constuction. MADE IN THE UK too.
Excellent price. Made to order only. Quality = non better, even the high end brand names can't do it that good.
I'm seriouly thinking of selling my old belstaff on ebay and going down the Claymore road. Excellent!!

Never had a wax style jacket and i am looking to replace my old and very worn BMW jacket. Also, my riding style has changed since i bought a different bike so i do not find long jackets that comfortable anymore.

Have had a look at the Claymore web site and they look decent, especially with the armour option.

Has anyone actually used Claymore? I saw on another forum that someone, the owner i think, got pretty badly abused because of his customer service and how he had approached the question of Claymore being a Belstaff rip off.

Any thoughts, i have always like Belstaff but they are expensive and i do prefer the option of using British companies etc as long as they are a good jacket.

Hi, Belstaff are now Italian owned, designed and made, not to mention priced! Another case of a foreign company seeing the value of a brand and being able to make a lot out of it. Their now a fashion item. Lindsay.

mat_brook, if you want a Belstaff, you get a Belstaff. Waxed cotton, around £350-£400. Leather, the thick end of a grand.
Expensive,trendy and Italian owned??? I can't argue with that but I can tell you that it's beautifully made, top quality stuff.
There are many who will tell you they bought theirs before they became trendy or that they can buy a well made waxed cotton jacket for 50 notes and use the difference to fund a ride to Mongolia. I can't argue with that either, you pays your money-you takes your choice.
Why buy a GMT Master when you can tell the time with a £9.99 Casio? Why drive a 458 when you can take a bus? Who needs a pair of Church's when you can stroll to the boozer in flip-flops? And surely only an idiot would spend hours and a fortune wining and dining some drop dead gorgeous,oity-toity blonde girly when he could shag a fat ugly bird for the price of a bottle of Vimto and some crisps.
If you've got the money for a fancy Belstaff, you get one, mate.
The wife and I have a few old Belstaffs in Cordura or leather that are around 20 years old and still going strong after many,many miles. We also have a few Italian Belstaff items that are worn in the pub at Summerbridge, on the bike at Bonar Bridge or sipping espresso on the Ponte Vecchio. I say again, you pays your money-you takes your choice.
I don't know where you are in Yorkshire but it's worth getting a train over to Manchester to have a look in the Belstaff store, especially if there's a sale on. It's about 10mins walk from Manchester Piccadilly and, as a bonus, you pass the Dainese Superstore on the way. And an Italian restaurant called Gio's, have lunch there.

I've got a waxed Belstaff Trailmaster and, it has to be admitted, it looks great and is very well made.

However, I also bought it at the pre-trendy, pre-LWD, pre-italian price of £130 in 2002. £380? personally there is no way I'd spend that kind of money on one. I have heard that the Aussie 'Sunstuff' jackets are a nice alternative, but even they cost circa £200.

I wear mine to the pub, not on the bike. On the bike I take advantage of the last 50 years of technological advances and wear a Hein Gericke nylon jacket with a Goretex liner. Much drier, much warmer and much safer. JMHO!

There is a Triumph jacket in the Trailmaster style made of modern materials which I'd be tempted by (£180). AlexleBrit posted about it last week.
