Aerostich Riding Boots, any good?
 

I've read through all the postings about boots,
but no-one has mentioned anything about Aerostich's 'COmbat Touring Boot' :

Has anyone had any experience of them, especially in an African environment?

The only thing I didn't like about them was the stupid advertising label they sewed inside. It was itchy!

Otherwise they are great. Kick anything you want and (almost) drop a bike on them. Plenty waterproof too.

BTW they are made by Sidi (italian company), so you might well find them in the UK under a different time, cheaper perhaps.

Had the boots for 6 years now, they have been across the Sahara, South America and Central America, as well as daily commute. The boots are exceptionally comfortable, the leather inside is superb ( feet hardly stink) .. The downside of them is the leak like a river when it rains, waterproofing doesn't help as the seam on top is wrong. Also they give zero ankle protection in crashes..

ive had mine now for over 12 months, downside for me was the cost, really expensive once you add on customs duties etc into australia... however you get what you pay for...

i think theyre great, mine a fine as far as keeping the water out... i use dubbin to treat the leather...

most of all i love thier timeless design, no frills, no rubbish just good old boots.
i look forward to the pair of us growing old together....

I've had the Aerostich Combat touring boots for a while. Did a trip from Germany to Turkey with them. They are tough, to the point where they are a bit too tough.

If was was doing a primarily off-road / trail ride, I would take them. Otherwise they are a little to uncomfortable.

For the return trip from Turkey to Germany (6 months later), I used a pair of Sidi On-Road Sympatex. They are more comfortable, more waterproof, and still tough enough.

For my next trip (NYC to South America), I'll be taking the Sidi On-Roads again, not the Combat touring boots.
