Advice on what to wear in Morocco

Advice on what to wear

Hi everyone, I've got a trip coming up to Morocco and the Western Sahara late November and into the middle of December.
I just have a question regarding trousers ??
I'm not sure whether it would be best to wear leather trousers or jeans with Gore-Tex pullover over trousers.

I've ridden in Spain before in very hot temperatures wearing leather trousers and it wasn't much of a problem, ( although some evenings they stuck to me so fast it was difficult getting them off)

I know that the temperatures inland in Morocco will be fairly cool that time of year, but on the coast should be warm. The leathers will offer more protection, but the
Gore-Tex over trousers will be more flexible but cooler (I think)
any suggestions would be really helpful.

i guess it depends on what you're intending on doing once you're there. I wouldnt suggest leather, simply because most leathers are black. If you're hoping to do anything offroad, I would strongly suggest specific textile bike gear - HG tuareg, BMW rally pro, Akito desert.

If you're going to do some serious offroading, you'll need the best - KLIM riding gear. They do have a UK importer/distributor. Its pukka stuff as used on the dakar.

Thanks for that.
Probally not much off road (if any at all)the bike I am taking on this trip is really a small tourer (Honda Deauville) so I will stay on tarmac.

Personally, I'd wear something like Draggin' jeans, and take some waterproof over-trousers or cordura type all-weather pants with knee armour built in for the cooler/wetter days... (although you probably won't wear them). If it is cooler, you can always wear a thin thermal layer like the Heli-Hensen leggings/top under your gear?

The thing with Morocco, even in winter, is that the temperature in the morning can be very different to midday and again the later afternoon. Same goes for the different altitudes. Having layers that you can mix and match (and that pack down small) is far more flexible?

Unless you're on a knee down mission, I really can't see how leathers would be preferable in that sort of climate/touring situation?

Go with JMo that way you have normal looking clothes to wear off the bike. If you use merino based thermals they also stay fresher for longer. Maybe a cheap one piece waterproof oversuit would be useful for bad weather. I got one from Aldi for £12 works a treat. :scooter:

I went at the same time of year a couple of years ago.

I wore some cargo pants on my bottom half, and a leather jacket on the top. It was perfect for the day, but come nightfall, it was a little on the chilly side. If you are sleeping rough, I would recommend taking a few extra thermal bits of kit. I ended up kipping with Bedouins and borrowing blankets to try and stave off the cold.

For me it would depend on what kind of riding.

January this year, off-road / rough piste, I wore very thin base layer long-johns and top under MX jeans with knee pads and my sixsixone bondage/gimp armour under an MX jersey.

Early and late I slung an unlined cordora jacket on top. I also had a micro fleece with me that would fit on over the armour; just in case. Only felt cold when we were riding through the snow and maybe a little chilly first thing in the morning.

Regards
