I've had a Coleman 533 for 15 years and other than fitting a new generator (I carry the old one as a spare) it's run on unleaded with no probs. It's the GS of stoves. I use a swedish fire steel to light it and it starts easily in sub-zero temperatures. I've never felt the need to try anything else, it just works.

I spent several years working in stores selling, repairing and using liquid fuel stoves in NZ. Coleman are a dog to repair and have much greater chance of clogging up using "less desirable" fuels due to narrow üncleanable generators.(thats the tube going over the top to vapourise the fuel before jetting it) Petrol is full of stuff to make it better for your engine (or not) better for the enviroment but not better for your cooker.
Coleman require you to replace the entire generator when it clogs, MSR have a wire you pull out back and forward a few times and it's done. No replacement required. They also have a "shaker Jet" it's a needle on a brass ball inside that if you shake your cooker before you use it a few times it bounces up and down cleaning the eye of the jet out futher making it more operational using dirty fuels.

Reallty is in Western Europe, North America, Aussie etc, the fuels are going to be pretty good And any good brand cooker will do you fine. (MSR, Colemen, Primus, Optimus) It's all horses for courses.
But heading off on a big trip to more"developing countries" I (and most mountain expedtions) wouldn't touch anything other than an MSR preferably a Dragonfly or a X-GK. the Dragonfly has good flame control to simmer or roar like hell, so better if prefer to "cook" The X-gk has only one setting... booster rocket.Perfect if you only wnt to heat the shit out of something... They run on anything that smells bad (reputably even a bit of Yak butter mixed in to stretch fuel supplies!! ) They have a fantasic mantainace kit (at more cost) but heading out it's a must have and allow you to fix anything in the sticks. They roar/heat even more on a petrol/desiel mix.... but dirty soot! A Whiperlite wouldn't be a bad choice either . Mine ran for 7 years of heavy abuse I only sold it because i fancied a new Dragonfly.

Whatever Cooker you use be very, very careful using petrol. The prefered fuel is "coleman fuel" or white spirts (same thing) it's cleaner and has a much lower octane so it's conciderably less volatile than petrol. With petrol there's a much greater risk of fire/flare up But White spirts is pricy and harder to get. Makes sense to use the same as your bike. Just like your bike; strip it down every couple of uses and check o -rings and seals, etc, give it a quick clean (something thats harder on a coleman, easier on a MSR or PRIMUS Omni fuel etc. with a remote bottle) this will make it a lot safer to use and much longer life. once it's been done a few times it will only take you 5 minutes. I've seen many people come in to my shop with a cooker that have "failed' them or often enough caught fire - in one case taking the tent with it. In all of these cases they gave me a blank look when I asked them how often they mantained it.....
