DIY phone mount - ideas?

Does anyone know of any tried and tested solutions for a cheap and easy DIY phone mount - one that also reliably holds the phone to the bike?

I need something not too cumbersome to live with for a couple of weeks - until I can get my more permanent solution mounted (quadlock with 12 mm bar mount for the T7's electronics mounting bar behind the windscreen). Also, since it is only to be used for a couple of weeks - the DIY project itself must be cheap, quick and easy.

:helpsmilie:

I'm waiting delivery of my T7 next week. Stupid me, being trigger happy, I accidentally ordered the wrong quadlock mount (RAM ball only, instead of 12 mm bar mount). The correct mount will arrive after I take the bike on its first trip. What I do have now is the case, the vibration dampener and the ball.

I saw one youtube video that simply used three rubber bands and a rag - but I would not trust it for anything but a slow bicycle ride.

No tank bag. Plan to order Mosko Nomax, but they are out of map cases, and it would not have made it in time

I do have the adhesive wall mount from Quadlock, which I could probably fix to the tank. I am however uncertain about two things. The first being if the adhesive would hold. The second being how I would remove it later without damaging the tank or the sticker that protects it or being left with residue. Maybe I can create a lanyard of some sort incase the wall mount comes undone?

Fixing the phone and/or phone case to the tank or filler cap somehow might be a good route. Thx for the idea!

Other ideas are welcome still.

Big-box supermarket > bicycle handlebar mount.

I've been using a case and mount made by Topeak, a bicycle accessories company. I bought it, in fact, for mountain and road biking, but started bringing it along for use on rental motorcycles--easy mount and dismount so that I never leave the phone when I'm off the bike, completely waterproof at highway speeds (merely splash-proof when plugged in for charging), lightweight so I don't hesitate to bring it along, but more expensive than the ones found in the above big-box stores. I made a little wooden insert so I can accommodate my two different-sized phones.

I don't know what to say about vibration issues. I use an old iPhone at home and a middle-aged Huawei while traveling, and each has survived many weeks of pounding without any apparent problems. How this applies to longer trips is an open question.

Hope that's helpful.

Small plastic lunch box fixed to the handlebars / once with cable ties when picking up a Honda Inova from London and once bottled to the handle bars off a 1100gs for a trip to Dakar .

Hole cut in the lid smaller than the phone or sat nav to hold it in place and lined with bubble wrap to work as a shock absorber

Added a couple of reusable cable ties on the phone one as a extra safety devise so the phone couldn't come out.

If you're using a DIY sealed (ie waterproof) box arrangement in a hotter climate you may find the phone shuts itself down when it overheats. I spent many a happy half hour or so waiting for my iPhone to reset itself in southern Spain a while back before rigging up some air scoop arrangement to keep it cool.

Gorilla tape the phone to the screen
