Replacement F800GS chain
I've just been told that my OE chain needs replacing in the not too distant future (2000 miles or so). Having only done 6000, that doesn't strike me as being brilliant! :nono:
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what replacement would be more hard-wearing / last longer? |
chains are definitely one of those 'you get what you pay for' items, look for o-ring or x-ring and judge by the 'Quality Rating' that is in Pounds and Pence on the parts list....
Looking after a chain will make a huge difference to the life. Are the sprockets ok? Steel prockets last longer but if you muller your chain then they might need swapping out anyway. wemoto have a heavy dudty x-ring chain for 91 pounds GBP BMW F 800 GS 09 Parts at Wemoto - The UK's No.1 On-Line Motorcycle Parts Retailer |

Personally I tend to use DID. Just fitted an X ring DID to mine, including new sprockets. Went one tooth up on the front to a 17, since I am doing 100% commuting at the minute.
If you want to spend extra, get the gold coated links, but it's no stronger. I use a Scottoiler, and the chain lasted 23,000 miles. Would perhaps have gone on longer were it not for a tight spot... |
Thanks for the replies. I do look after the chain very well - lube it and check tension. Guess it's one of the 'quirks' of the F800 (thanks Tim!).
