Repair & Maintenance "how to" books or DVD's

Can someone recommend instructional books or DVD's for repairs and maintenance for the 1200 GS Adventure ? I'm a total novice and starting my 'adventure' learning the basics. I am not planning a RTW trip, but rather a number of weeks on and off the beaten track in Africa. Important are basics like tyre repair and other common issues one encounters.

The DVD's I found on the web to date are this video from Globeriders/TouratechAmazon.com: GlobeRiders BMW R1200GS Adventure Touring Instructional DVD: Helge Pedersen, Sterling Noren: Movies & TV and this one from Jim von Baden JVB Productions - BMW R1200 DVD.
Can anyone recommend these ?

A good resource on the net I found is the "How to" guide R1200GS How To Projects

Thanks & apologies if I missed a thread on this.

1) Buy a maintance manual for the bike. Provides a handy reference .. you may not need to know it now .. but when you do you'll have it already at your finger tips.

2) attend a HU meeting ...

3) possibly the local to you BMW club has maintance days ... ask .. if they do .. join and participate.

This stuff is much easier to 'learn' when you have real people to ask. Sorry I've no experience with the products you mention.

Although the HU BMW guru who attends most years at Ripley - Phil The Boxer Man - begins his talks by stating that he doesn't touch the 1200GS as it's too complex. :(

Still, you can always learn to change tyres and speak to other 1200 owners. :thumbup1:

For general on the road tips for GS riders, I'd certainly recommend Helge Pedersen's BMW R1100/1150GS DVD for 'the basics'.

Thanks for the advice. In the mean time, I got the JVB DVD, and it is very useful indeed. Recommended...
