Removing Ignition switch on R100GS (1991)

Hi;

I'm re-posting this post as
a)it seems there is a problem replying to the original post I had, well, posted!
b) a good HUBB samaritan did send me a suggestion by email, and it works, so I wanted to share this with whomever may need this.

So here we go again:

Initial problem: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/confused.gif
I've returned from some sandy places - the sand there was so amazingly thin it even got into the ignition switch, which came to a complete grind the day I got home.

OK, it was the bike saying "Enough! I'm gonna stay here now for a while".

Well, it's been long enough now, and I've decided to fix this - But i can't! I've tried WD40 - bad idea said some friends, but too late.

So now I want to actually remove it, try to steam things off, shake it out ( I've tried to shake the bike, but was missing a bit of strenght to turn it upside down...); or just replace it. But I can't get the damn thing out!

Has anyone remove it before? How?

NB: the Haynes manual is silent about it - the Clymer talks about ignition switches, but not for this model.

Solution (thanks to Hans) http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
"Here you have to lever off the plastic ring around the switch. Use a thin blade and lift it carefully. The clips of this ring do break easily. After removing the outer ring you see a groove left and right of the switch. Press the two clips to the inside, while pressing the switch downwards."

Well, it works - and I can confirm that the clips do brake easily...

I've made some pictures if anyone is interested (Grant - let me know if you want them).

Oh, and for those interested in what happened next, once I managed to remove the ignition switch, I did shake and shake the ignition switch, played with the key in & out, and in & out,.. and now it works again. Hoping it does not jam again!

testing replies.... if this works, the OTHER thread doesn't because it has forbidden characters that could be used to hack the system in the subject.

Send me the pics and a few words about it and I'll post it! http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/smile.gif
