R80g/s Points or Electronic Ignition

So, those of you who have travelled and put these bikes to the test Which is better. Points or ICU?

I have two which have done over 300,000 miles between them and I stick with electronic ignition. If you are touring and want to take a spare, buy a secondhand unit and strip the ring out of it which has the hall effect unit with its wires attached to it and carry that, much smaller than the whole bean can.

I know there is a thread dealing with this question, or at least some comments... but I fail to find them -:(...
Someone who was going on a major trip to south-america discussed the pro and con ITU and brakerpoints.

This deals with what happens when the ITU brakes/fails:

This deals with other aspects of the ITU vs brakerpoint issue:

I had looked for that thread but failed to find it. In any case I bought a bean can just to give it a try for a season. Like food, I'm not going to just dismiss it until I try it. I look at it as I need to adjust the valves, pull half the bike apart to lube the splines, what is 10 minutes setting the points and relubing?

You'll need a different ohm coil as well. Two years running with points and im happy. Bike runs great

finally found a bean can with points ... major ebay score for $35 + shipping. seller sold it as parts with no guarantee it worked.

came in a bit dirty, but in perfect mechanical condition. shaft had zero play. cleaned up points until I can find some bus points.

still need to order a coil and figure out wiring
