R1150GS Tyres

Can anyone give me some advise on how many miles they have managed to squeeze out of a set of Metzeler Karoo -T for the above BMW. I have been running Tourance but require something better for off road.

Or any suggestions? Many thanks Stu

Tyres,

I don't know about your Metezler but I've been using Bridgestone Battlewings on my 1150gs, and two up with luggage weighing in at 520kgs I got around 9000 miles out of the rear and nearly double that from the front.
Happy New Year.

Battlewings are no better than Tourances when used offroad.

The most I've had from TKC's on my 1150GS is 3,000 miles, mainly fast tarmac from the UK to the Dolomites & back for a weeks offroading.

I recently got 5,000 miles from a Karoo front (not Karoo-T) on my 950SE. The 908RR that I used on the rear managed 4,000 miles but the SE is lighter than the GS. I'm now running a Karoo on the rear of the SE but it's too early to guesstimate what mileage I'll get from it but I doubt that it will exceed 4,000 miles. The 908RR is an awesome tyre but not sure if it's available in 17" rear to suit a GS? Note that the 908's are a lot more expensive than Karoo's & TKC's anyway, hence me now running Karoo's front & rear.

Note that riding on rocks etc leads to premature wear & your mileage will drop accordingly if you cover more miles offroad.

Not sure about the Karoo's, but I've used Conti TKC's. Front normaly gives me 18,000km and rear about 10,000km. This is two-up amost all the time.

I normaly ride with a TKC front and something that gives better milage (Michellin Anakee) on the rear. The TKC is only a noticable improvement on sand or mud, normal dirt roads make no difference for me what I have on at the back.

Many thanks for the info. Im currently in Argentina, so my choses are limited. I have survived the Ruta 40 and Carretera Austral on Tourances so might stick with these as they give good life. Happy riding.

Continental TKC 80

My choice for 1150GSA is Continental TKC80. Whai? I tray Metzeller Carro and Carro T and my expierence show that the TKC is more long time live. It is rely raid more than 3000km on asphalt with TKC and then use bike for off road riding. After 6000km on asphalt and 1500km on of road tires are not in good condition, but are usable.

Just replaced my set of tires in Colombia. I drove the Continental TKC front tire from San Fransisco, USA for 27,500km. At about 15,000km I changed the rotation of the tire, seems to make the tire last an extra 8,000kms or so.

I drove the rear Michillin since Arkansas, USA and had 21,000km on it.
