R1000GS engine cuts out. Any suggestions
 

My 1999 1100 GS engine quits periodically. Dash lights go out completely, engine stalls, then starts again. Happens irregulary. I am tracing the wiring under the tank from battery to ignition switch but, can't find any loose connections. Is there someone who's experienced this and found a fix?

Have you traced the ground cable from battery to the frame?

Faulty side stand switch ?

I'd bet on it being the harness from the ignition switch that goes forward. Not an expensive bit, and easily done. IIRC there's a tie wrap that exacerbates the problem as every time you move the handlebars, it strains the cables.

Similarily, IIRC, the front brake pipe from the master cyclinder has a similar problem.

In my R850GS the problem was similar and it was in the ignition key, do you happen that when turn the handlebar in any direction?...replace the ignition key module and problem solved!
