Petrol Leaking from carb.
 

There was a petrol leak (or might be puke) from the ventilation tube today. If you look at Clymer page 202 you will see a picture of carb. There is a pipe comes out between two lobes of carb. While I was riding today suddenly the engine stoped and I smelled petrol. I pulled left (England:)) and see a small lake of petrol just below the bike. Further invesgition proof that the petrol comes out so called in Clymer "vantilation pipe". Any idea or suggestion what the problem might be?

are you sure its from the hose? Never seen it come from there, no gas should find its way there. Make sure its not coming from the float bowl or gas line and just dripping onto that vac hose.Did it start up again,I hope?

I think that is the overflow on the bowl.
Your float got stuck, shut the gas off then remove the bowl and move the float up and down.
That should stop it. Check your float bowls and filters for dirt.

This is a common occurance with an airhead in hot weather, particularly if you stop the bike and fill up with fuel for example. An air-lock occurs and causes the remaining fuel in the carb to come pouring out (not very much) until the airlock clears. Unclip the bowl to relieve pressure stick it back on and away you go.

Just to be sure, what year and model BMW are we talking about ?

If it's the normal Bing carb, the bowl is on the bootom side, fixed with a clip. Flip the clip aside, but before removing the bowl, press it upwards, shift it left & right to make sure the gasket doesn't stick, then remove the bowl downwards. It might just be the float having got stuck, but it might also be the needle which is moved up and down by the float. Both need to move easily.
