Overheating problems F650 GS Dakar
Hi Anybody !
After a lot of advice I changed my water pump here in Buenos Aires and will carry a spare along the Panamerican. Settled on the BMW coolant as I didn´t have an oppurtunity to find anything else. Obliging as the mechanic at BMW´s newest dealership here was, on the way back from the workshop the temperature warning light came on, and the bike felt kinda hot. There are two things I noticed the mechanic do which might have something to do with the overheating, and I´d love the advice from anyone knowledgeable out there in BMW land. Firstly, he added the BMW coolant straight out of the bottle, with no added water. I notice that the book reccomends a 50/50 mix with water. Is the fact that it´s 100% coolant fluid likely to reduce the cooling efficiency ? Secondly, he merrily overfilled the oil while the bike was running to the point where the sight glass is completely full after the obligatory 1 minute wait before checking the oil level. Apart from the fact you shouldn´t overfill, could this also be a cause for Overheating ? What I plan to do unless anyone advises me otherwise is to drain some oil from the reservoir drain plug until it´s in the middle of the sight glass, and also take some coolant out and replace with water. If that doesn´t do the trick maybe my dear mechanic somehow disconnected the thermostat. What do you reckon ? Cheers Jeremy www.panamerica.co,uk |
Problem solved, too much air in the coolant system.
Just hate these learning curves... Jeremy |
