Which Odyssey battery for My '88 r100gs
 

I've decided to go with an odyssey battery but I'm having a little trouble tracking down the exact model to use in my 1988 r100gs. I've found a post on this site which suggests I want a PC545, but everywhere else on the internet it seems I've a choice between a PC680 or a PC925L. Can anyone help?

If it is a straight choice between a PC680 and a PC925L can anyone recommend which to go for, I like the idea of the extra cranking power of the PC925L as it could help on those cold mornings, but is the extra weight (about 5kg) worth it.

Any help appreciated.

I use the newish batteries from BMW. They might be more expensive but they fit without modifications and work well, even when cold.

I've used the PC 680 in mine. It is slimmer than a standard battery so needs some padding to stop it moving. The space is just right for a SLIME compressor.
The battery does give the boxer the extra kick it needs on a cold morning.

Yep, the PC 680 in my '89 worked great. Lots of cranking power. The only downside I found was that during winter storage it didn't hold a charge very well. I think maybe it needs to be completely disconnected in order to hold a charge.

PC 680 is what fits in the /7 frame pre-19xx; then (on the 90:ties modells) there is room for the next sized Odyssey.

I'm amazed at the power from the PC680 - had my R100RT 1981 standing out-doors at winter, -10'C to -15'C for 3 monthes. Didn't touch the bike. A friend came by and wanted to hear how the engine sounded. The engine started at the first or second push of the starter-button!!!
I had not had any charging of the battery what so ever, in a stock R100RT with only a rectifying diod between the regulator and the two blue cables (=> +0.6V).

Any standard acid battery would have been unable to start the engine! Even a car-battery would have failed. The Odyssey had power enough to start the engine several times over !!! I was stunned.
Even when one have swapped the stock leaking generator/alternator for a car generator/alternator the engine would not have started after 2 monthes untouched and non-charged.

Never seen any stock beemers be possible to start without first charging the battery if the bike has been unused for about a month (during summer time).

I whish the old /7 frames had the needed 1-2cm more space that is needed for the larger Odessey, FC925 - 19Ah still is 19Ah even though the starter current obviously is far better than from a Banner 30Ah (53030). I see now that Odyssey have relisted the PC680 to 24Ah (or is that really what then mean???)

Hi, thanks for the replies. I've ordered the PC680 today. By the sounds of it that will be more than enough, and I especially like the fact that I'll have enough space next to the battery for a slime compressor.
