No More R100gs Wheels

BMW have stopped production of the Rear wheel for the R100gs !!!!!!!

Bmw tell us that the wheel can ONLY be Correctly built by them in the factory on their jig.
Bmw will not allow their dealers to rebuild the r100gs wheels or in fact any bmw spoke wheels.
If you have a problem with your wheels Bmw will only sell a complete replacement wheel built in the factory.

How do I know:
My rear wheel was breaking spokes at a rate of 1 a day, wheel rebuilt in Croatia thanks to the guys at the Split bmw riders club.

First stop was BMW Split, you can still buy the individual parts but NO complete rear wheels. They contacted the bmw riders club for me.

I am now in Austria with still the same problem. Used my last spare spoke to get here and now looking for a wheel builder who knows his stuff.

(and No I am NOT overloaded - just riding on the road as normal)

WE MUST ALL Spread this news and force BMW to supply wheels. !!!!!!!!

It's a shame if it's not possible to get new wheels anymore. Usually you can find some on German ebay.
There are some companies that can rebuild the wheels, two companies are mentioned here: BMW Tubeless Spoked Wheels Maintenance | Horizons Unlimited

Something has to be serious wrong. Why are the spokes breaking? Does it happen on both sides of the rim?
I've more then 300kkm on my paralevers and I've not broken a single spoke..

I wonder what my spare set are worth now then...?

There are very few wheel rebuilders in the UK who can do the tubeless Akront wheels. There's one in Devon, but they seem to be very slow.

I wouldn't panic too much though, there are plenty of second hand wheels. One day I will get some and have them rebuilt. New rims are available from non-BMW sources. I don't think they are manufactured by Akront though. I'm sure it would also be possible to have a different type of rim fitted. I've never been convinced of the need for tubeless tyres on an Airhead. It's not exactly a performance bike.

Just to reiterate, you need to get the wheels built by someone who knows how to build the Akront wheels. Ordinary wheel builders will not be able to do it. In the UK, the issue is well enough known for wheel builders to actually refuse to do it.

The para-wheels are Behr, not Akront.

Years ago the G/S-wheels (which used to be Akront but Akront is now Morad) become NLA. Used ones are hard to find and expensive. This might be the case with the para-wheels in a few years.

Remember the hub also wears, slowly...

Both my sets of Para wheels are Akront...
