LED rear lights
I'd like to upgrade the poor/unreliable rear light to LED's, ie: brighter. I've tried an LED "bulb" but its just as bad, especially as it uses the same connection method. There's nothing much on "search", does anyone have any info? Perhaps it could even include replacing the stalk blinkers? Lots of junk on ebay!

Gizmo Mill Road Rocketeer
Greetings Tim
I have news for you but not much of it is good. I bought an LED replacement for my tail light from Touratech several years ago that works very well but they no longer sell them. The company that built the unit was something called Gizmomill that now trades as Road Rocketeer they do have a tail light for a R100GS Road Rocketeer -- Brake! for BMW BUT you need to read through this entire thread on ADV before you get too exited Gizmo Mill---->Road Rocketeer - ADVrider From what I can see I don't think you will have much luck getting a tail light from them which is a pity as it does the job well. In that ADV thread they do talk about another company called adventuretech but from their website they don't have a tail light for your model. Have you checked out wunderlich, siebenrock? That's about all I can think of. Good Luck |
LED rear lights
Tim;Here in Canada,I went to a heavy truck supplier and got an Led light and mount incorporating running light and brake light. Oval shaped and stands up to vibration very well.Been on my KLR for 5yrs.
Good luck Neil W |
In my view replacing just the incandescent bulb will not work. You really need to replace the bulb, the reflector and the lens.
The incandescent setups in new vehicles work great because they are purpose built for incandescent bulbs with the correct reflector shape and bezels on the inside of the lens. |

Try this
I wanted a brighter rear light for my 83 g/s, so I simply covered the reflector, as the silvering had deteriorated, with kitchen foil. Obviously with the shiny side facing the bulb.
Much improved light and probably better than a new unit. |
