Is bmw socket weatherproof?

I asked my BMW dealer if the DIN auxillary electric socket on top of the 'tank' of my F650GS Twin is weatherproof when in use and he wasn't sure. Does anyone know?

It doesn't look to be but, on the other hand, why place it exposed to the weather if it can't be used in the rain?

They work in the rain/snow but like most motorcycle components will need replacing after a year or two when the contacts corrode. Attempts to keep water out of "one hand use" plugs like these will always fail, you typically trap water and make it worse. Running water does little harm in the short term, it's pools that cause shorts.

If you want actual waterproof you need a two handed, sealed type operation. Molex and AMP do a good selection which are IP68 or IP67 rated plugs. The clip or twist operation compresses the seals, hence they keep water out. BMW won't fit these for auxiliaries as every time some loon forgets to unplug their heated jacked and drags the bike over they risk being sued.
