GS1100 , (1999) front turn signal replacement

My 1999 GS1100 got bumped off the center stand, keeled over and smashed the left side turn signal. So a suitable new replacement set of blinkers was bought .
But now the nightmare begins. After undoing and moving the tank ,removing the windshield ,removing the beak front fender and the two lower side portions of the little shroud , plus the two Allan bolts holding to the "ears" and headlight/instrument cluster frame , and disconnected the little vertical adjustment pillar aft of the headlight.

My Haynes shop manual makes NO mention of this work, only how to replace a bulb .
The selling BMW shop( new owners) says it does not have any shop manual info for the 1999 GS bikes and after two days of searching the web I can not locate any source .

PLEASE , anybody , could you provide a step by step set of instructions for how I get at those turn signal stalks which are hidden deep ,away from prying eyes ? Maybe a link to an actual repair explanation on the web ? Truly great karakter doh, but not conducive to quick roadside repair .

Have a look here
I can't believe it's so involved - compared to an R1150GS.

BINGO !!::thumbup1::thumbup1:
Thank you ever so much two wheels good :D

Yes it is super complicated . And the frustrating part is that about 15 years ago I did manage to take it apart for the same reason but I did not take notes , hoping to never need to do it again :blushing: , I guess . I had a vague nightmarish recall of having to take of multiple parts in order to get to the problem .At that time I also discovered that rattle -noise up front was due to a need to tighten (Loctite) the nut below the headlight which holds down the entire plot.
The setup on the GS 1150 looks as if they realized their error and they reset the blinkers further aft and lower and hopefully more easily removable .

The engineer who designed the original GS1100 blinkers' mounting method must have been given some kind of an award for the extremely complex layer-cake and hidden design features as it must have garnered a significant number of billable -hours for their shops.

Does BMW on the new models now give any consideration for the easy and simple replacement of fragile and frequently broken outside bits ?

Again THANK YOU. Rest assured that this time notes will be taken and put into my Haynes manual

Great. Glad it was useful.
Maybe I shouldn't gripe about the chore of removing the beak and lights on my 1150.

Broke both indicators on my 1100gs - I was lucky enough to be able to stick them back together using electrical tape. This lasted many thousands of miles and I eventually sold the bike with the tape still in tact.

Good luck with your job.
